Karen Oremus' Talk

Like any university, there are constantly fascinating talks going on. In our College of Visual and Performing Arts, several of our professors have been giving talks throughout the semester about their practice. The latest was by our Chair, Karen Oremus.
Born in Canada, she came to Winthrop via Italy, Croatia, and the United Arab Emirates, where she was integral to starting the printing and art departments in Dubai and Abu Dabi.
She watched the entire cities grow from hamlets to world centers in her time there. Her before and after photos were amazing.
Her artwork has always been about maps and decay and finding ones way through. It sprang from her background in printmaking and archaeology, and knowing that background was absolutely fascinating and put all the pieces together. What a treat to learn so much about her creative process!
