Cece Bell at Hollins!

We are so lucky to have Newbery Honor Award-winning creator Cece Bell living nearby! (Shown above with characters from El Deafo painted life-size by our own Ashley Wolff.) She recently visited our Media class recently led by our newest professor, Brian Counihan.
She was here to share the process behind her newest book, Animal Albums, which you really need to see and deeply immerse yourself in to get the full effect!
Cece not only created an album cover for every letter of the alphabet, like "Arnie Dillow: Acordion Americana";
she actually created many of the songs she made up for the album covers (all 'created' by animal bands). You can check them out on her Animal Albums Youtube channel! Yes, that's her in her handmade elephant costume singing about her wonderful elbow!
Cece gave a talk to a lovely audience both in person (with children!) and online (the event was free and open to the public). We laughed, we sang, the children were enraptured!
It was followed by a very busy book signing afterwards hosted by Imaginations toystore in Blacksburg, Virginia. New Roanoker and children's book author Allan Wolf was there as well! What a GREAT TIME was had by all!
