In an attempt to understand the basic shapes used in favorite book cover designs, per Molly Bang's PICTURE THIS: HOW PICTURES WORK, my students recreated two book covers using cut paper: TINKA by Rainy Dohaney; STREGA NONA'S HARVEST by Tomie dePaola.
They also rearranged the elements to see if they could come up with a more successful layout. Of course, both concluded the printed layout was indeed the most successful approach. What a great way to work out depth, positive/negative space, and composition!
We're all learning so much and having a great time at Hollins!
