Dr. e talk to SCBWI Israel about Type!

I was proud to talk to an SCBWI chapter on nearly the other side of the globe yesterday! I was hosted by Shirley Waisman and Niyati Froind, the RAs for the Israeli chapter of SCBWI. I met them both in Bologna last spring and they asked me to come talk.
I've taught type for years and have chapters dedicated to it in my forthcoming book on picture book design with Bloomsbury UK; but I'd never given a one-off dedicated talk about type. So, the attendees got a brand new presentation! Turns out, I had a LOT to say too!
The title was Type Matters: Designing Words in Picture Books and it was described as, "While we often spend a lot of time writing a story, the shape of that story on the page can sometimes be an afterthought. And yet, typography tells a story too. Font choices, placement, and the shape of words can relay as much meaning as the words themselves. In this workshop, we’ll investigate how to make sure your story is being told through the proper typographic treatment."
I so enjoyed talking with everyone and hope I have the opportunity to do so again soon!
