Best Illustrated Children's Books of 2009
The New York Times recently put out their list of "Best Illustrated Children's Books of 2009" - in their opinion. Some of the choices I whole-heartedly agree with (like "Tales from Outer Suburbia" by Shaun Tan - above), but as usual, some have me stumped. What's your opinion?

Thanks for the link to the Times article. My dad was a reading specialist. By that I mean he really examined books at the library in the children's section. He looked at illustration style, story, moral, plot, and cultural influences. He always brought home unexpected books that we as kids would never have chosen. There was a depth breadth and diversity of rich and wonderful experiences for us to enter while reading. It seemed as though he always found the real gems in the stacks of pretty or popular books, ones where the totality of the book form created a work of enduring art. I think he would agree with the spirit of the NY Times selections but of course he'd have his own diverse list.
