Jennifer and Daniel's visit

This was the first time we had visitors during the Christmas holiday come to stay. Jennifer heads the undergraduate art department at Hollins University, where we've become good friends. So, she and her husband Daniel came to visit on a whirlwind Scottish adventure. Their last name is Printz, so we had to get a shot of them in front of The Printing Press, all dolled up for the holidays.
Visiting Edinburgh during Christmas is not for the faint of heart. The days are short, the weather can be dicey, and the winds can blow hard enough to bowl you over. But the pay-off is oh so sweet - twinkle lights abound along with mulled wine and hot cider, and the Christmas villages are truly lovely. Here they are at The Dome.
Daniel was keen to see the unfinished accropolis on the top of Calton Hill, the reason Edinburgh is often-times called the 'Athens of the North'. So we headed up on Saturday morning. Here we are with the city behind us. (And yes, it was very windy!)
All of the amenities of Calton Hill have finally finished their refurbishments, so we got to have a first look at the inside of the observatory.
Here's some lovely information about that.
Friday night we went to my fave restaurant, Fishers in the City for a fruit de mer. Sadly, we missed the shot of them over the giant seafood platter. But I did get a good shot of the pair enjoying their first whisky flight at Arcade the next night.
And Jenn's reaction to eating haggis for the first time.
From our place, Jennifer and Daniel headed to Glasgow where the weather is actually being kinder than expected. They come back through town on Wednesday, so we'll have one last dinner together before they head back to the states, where they will need to catch up on their sleep! They've packed a lot into their visit and hope to come back. We'd love to have them stay with us again - we had fun. And how wonderful to celebrate the holiday with friends!
