Book Festival: Sarah McIntyre
I've been a fan of Sarah McIntyre ever since she started #PicturesMeanBusiness in support of children's book illustrators and the importance of recognizing the contributions they (we) make to a text. So, I was thrilled to learn that she was speaking at this year's book festival. She and Philip Reeve were celebrating the release of their latest book The Legend of Kevin, a story about a very round flying pony. Sarah and Philip make a really good team on stage. They're both complete hams and they put on a great show for the kids. Sarah is American, so one of the jokes they do is kids describe classic English biscuits (known as cookies in the US) for her as she draws them. It was hilarious! Sarah creates wonderful outfits for her events and ends up looking so cartoonable herself, I had to draw her. Happily, I was able to give it to her and she shared it on her twitter page. I'll say it once again - THANK YOU Sarah for standing up for us illustrators!!!
