Book Festival: Tom Gauld at The Golden Hare

My favorite part of Fringe is here - the Edinburgh International Book Festival! Last Saturday, Stan and I took a meander down to our nearest bookstore, Golden Hare Books in Stockbridge. It was a lovely evening and the stroll there was a treat in itself. City gardens are at their height right now.
And I have a theory that all the fireworks at the castle each night (to wrap up each evenings performance of the Military Tattoo) has temporarily relocated all the city seagulls to slightly further reaches. At least, I hope that's true. This guy could have cared less about us!
Golden Hare hosted cartoonist Tom Gauld. You may recognize Tom's work as he is a cartoonist for The Guardian, The New Yorker, and Scientific Journal. He was celebrating his new book Baking With Kafka
As you might expect, he was wonderfully funny, entertaining, and enlightening! THIS CARTOON is probably my fave!
The event took place in the central space of the bookstore, which filled up quickly! Stan and I met our friend Connie for dinner at one of our fave sushi restaurants before-hand, and silly us dawdled a bit, so we didn't get the best seats. But it was still a lovely and intimate affair.
It was also extremely interested to learn about Tom's process, which included a walk outside to wrap his head around an idea before he ever sets pen to paper.
What a great kick-off to the Book Festival!
